INDOOR AND OUTDOOR RADON CONCENTRATIONS IN SELECTED HOMES NEAR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

Abstract
During November 1990-February 1991, a pilot study on indoor and, outdoor air concentrations of radon was undertaken in 36 selected homes near nuclear power plants in Yeongkwang and Uljin areas. Average indoor radon levels in selected homes were 2.10 pCi/L, 1.4 times higher than the outdoor radon levels. Mean radon levels in Yeongkwang area were higher than the corresponding levels in Uljin area. Indoor radon¢¥ levels in the study areas seemed to be varied significantly by different type of housing, construction materials, other sources. These results suggested that indoor radon sources were not from outdoor sources, but from intrusion gas of indoor sources.
